Jiskoot Bunker Blender Optimises Cost & Feasibility

Cameron’s Jiskoot Quality Systems business unit has supplied a Fuel Oil Blending system to be installed on a terminal vessel in the Middle East. The blender is designed to provide a range of final products of between 50 and 280 cSt with a throughput of 500 or 1000 m3/hr, using feed stocks of Fuel Oil (between 180 to 380 cSt) and Gas Oil (between 2 and 6 cSt).

The blender, which is due for commissioning in November 2008, was purchased from Jiskoot who were able to guarantee the quality of the final product blended by the system to a very close ISO compliant specification. Click here to find out more about Viscosity Trim Blenders.

Bunker fuel costs have recently risen, in line with crude oil prices and therefore feed stocks and the components used by suppliers to make the bunker fuels are significantly more expensive compared to 2 or 3 years ago. This, in conjunction with the increasingly stringent regulations of MARPOL, is driving bunker suppliers to consider how they can best optimise the quality of the products that they supply at a reduced cost and flexibility in what is a dynamic and changing market.

The supplied Jiskoot blending system was completely skid mounted with all of the flow meters, control valves, mixing, online analysis and blender control system necessary to produce a wide range of recipes from traditionally available bunker feed stocks. The blender control system contains standard software and has therefore been proven in a wealth of bunker applications worldwide. It enables simple configuration of recipes and ease of use with fully integrated fail safe alarm controls and shut down, in the event that the blender exceeds the quality control parameters or any other process up-set that occurs during blending.

One of the unique features of the Jiskoot blender, because it is a fully integrated flow measurement and control system rather than just a control and adjustment system, is that the bunker fuel is guaranteed to be on specification at all times during the batch. Any minor process upsets or variations in the viscosity of the base can therefore be instantly and automatically corrected by the blender control system to guarantee that the final blended product is as specified.

The blender was supplied to one of the most prominent companies operating from the Middle East.

Jiskoot was supported in the execution of this contract by their agents Petrogas in Abu Dhabi.
