This calculation determines the natural mixing in a straight pipeline and one containing close-coupled elbows within 1-3D of a potential sampling location. The standards demand that to be suitable for sampling a location must have C1/C2 ratio of more than 0.9 for all flow rates and at the minimum expected viscosity and density (highest API value).
